Salt dough
225g (8oz) plain flour 100g (4oz) tab e salt 10Oml (4f! oz or 'A cup) water You will need: Kitchen foil 230mm (9in) ribbon
I Roli out the salt dough until it is about 6mm (&in) thick. Cut it into stnps about 13mm (tfin) wide and about 150mm (6in) long. Weave two pieces of dough measuring 90 x 125mm (3^ x 5in) and 90 x 75mm (3^ x 3in)f (see Weaving Dough on page 15).
aLay the smaller piece of woven
dough on the top of the larger piece with the bottom edges together.
Mr\ Trim off the woven dough to
make a perfect 'V' shape. Join the W two pieces together to make the basket.
Carefully place the basket on a baking tray. Tuck some crumpied kitchen foil inside the front pocket to keep it open while it is baking.
SMake a twisted handle 280mm (11 in> long (see Making Twists on page 16) and join it to the basket at either side.
Bakę the basket at 120°C (250°F or Gas Mark 'A) for about three hours. When the Container is coo!, remove the foil. Varnish it, inside and out, and leave it to dry.
