Notę: Madeira Metallic Lurana has to be specially ordered.
CANYAS
♦ Cut the canvas, allowing a border of 5 cm (2 in). Bind the edges - see Carwas, page 138.
♦ Outline the approximate size and shape of the design with a waterproof indelible marker.
♦ Spray paint the canvas deep red to unify any color showing through.
FOLLOWING THE CHART
♦ The charts show the basie designs and should be repeated as necessary.
STITCHING THE TIEBACK
♦ For instructions, see Stitching, page 138.
♦ Use Madeira Metallic Lurana, Madeira Silk, and Madeira Decora as supplied (it is helpful to apply beeswax to the end of the Decora thread).
♦ The overall height should be 12.5 cm (5 in). If a fringe is to be added, this measurement should include the fringe so adjust the design.
♦ The main pattern for the tieback should be stitched first from right to left, the top border and diamond end stitched last. If preferred, rather than using a chenille fringe and Venetian glass beads on the bottom of the tieback, it is possible to repeat the top border pattern.
STITCHING THE PELMET
♦ When starting this pattern, decide which part of the canvas is going to be the center and begin there. From the center work to the left, then to the right, completing one row.
♦ Work one section at a time, leaving the rest of the canvas loosely rolled and held together on either end with large elips.
♦ This pattern should be stitched in seąuence with care taken with the stitch lengths as they vary from row to row.
♦ After attaching the chenille fringe, the glass Venetian beads should be individually sewn.
MAKING THE TIEBACK
♦ Select a lining for the back of the tieback -here crimson silk is used. The fringe and glass beads are attached at the end.
MAKING THE PELMET
♦ Unless you are skilled in upholstery, this project should be fabric-lined and mounted by a Professional upholsterer - see page 141.
