Thank you so much for the marvellous week I spent in your hotel. If I remember well, when I stayed in your hotel I had the room number 234. I had a single room with the view over the Thames. I had a wonderful time there. When I was leaving your hotel I was in hurry. I had 4 pieces of luggage with me and I went down leaving one of my suitcases in my room. In the plane I've noticed that I had one of my cases in a hotel. This suitcase is quite big, made of black leather. It is as good as new, because I bought this before my trip. It has two wide brown belts. The briefcase has a zip around which is made of plastic. There were: 4 or 5 skirts, a cardigan, 5-7 ties, a light jacket, brown suit and apair of trousers inside.

Thank you for the postcard I received from Spain. This year I also was abroad in Italy. I like to spend my vacation in the Mediterranean region. I enjoy the southern climate. Usually I go abroad by my car together with my family. It is a kind of my hobby. I always study guidebooks and I try to find an interesting region with warm lakes or sea. It is a pleasure for our family to have a bath or sail in those waters. The evenings we like to spend in cozy restaurants with dancing or regional music and food. I like live music. It is much more interesting than listening it from the radio. I love the atmosphere of southern Mediterranean evenings. When I have some spare time I like climbing and playing tennis. If it is only possible I try to organize my holiday in a way that allows me to enjoy all my favorite activities. I'm looking forward to the meeting with your family and you. It was good to hear from you. I've decided to change jobs. I finish working at SIKS next month and start in my new company WAL, the week after. SiKs didn't want me to leave but WAL offered me more money and more opportunities. I hope to be a manager there in two years. By the way I forgot to tell you-I'm learning to drive. My new company offered to let me use one of their cars, which was very good of them. I had a lot of problems at first but now it's getting better. REKOMENDACJA BIURA TURYSTYCZNEGO

I have just returned from Spain. It was a weeklong trip organized by “BALTUR” Travel Office. I went to Madrit by plane. It was a surprise for us to go there in business class. It was a bonus offered by SAS to the “BALTUR” clients. In Spain we got a professional Polish-speaking guide, who was very talkative and friendly. We stayed only in luxury hotels, where our travel office had a significant discount. The guide gave as back some money that we had paid before the trip. We used only comfortable air-conditioned buses. Every event of this trip was well planed and executed. We had time to visit the most interesting places and we also had time to rest and go dancing. Even during our way back the travel agent informed us that one of us won a trip to China.

I still remember the traditional Spanish cousin we could eat every evening. It was so delicious it's had to find words to describe it. I had known nothing about the BALTUR Travel Office before this trip, but now I'm sure that it is the best travel office in our town. The travel agent representing BALTUR in Spain is a very skilled and helpful professional. So, if I were you I would decide to go to Spain for Easter this year. MIASTO REGION ZAPROSZENIE MOJE

This year I didn't have any vacations, because we were too busy in the office. Perhaps next summer I will be able to take long vacations. I would be very happy if you come to Poland next year. I live in W, it's quite a small town, which is situated near Tri-city and Kaszubian district. I think it's got a population of about 50000 people. W has got 4 old churches and a lot of unique chapels. It has got quite a good sports stadium and a swimming pool, where you will have a good rest. W has god the Kaszubian museum. It has god a few nightclubs and only one cinema. There is a big park where there are a lot of interesting trees. Another advantages of my hometown it is connection with Tricity. It takes about 50 minutes to get to Gdańsk by train. G is very old city. It has got a university, many monuments and art galleries. G has got a lot of small cafes and good restaurants situated along the Motława river. You would spend a good time there. If the weather is fine you will spend your free time on the sandy beach. ŚWIADEK WYPADKU Accident

I witnessed an accident, which happened 2 days ago. I was coming back home from my office I saw a serious car accident. The car, which overtook my car, bumped into a tree. The car's driver tried to avoid hitting a careless small boy who suddenly ran in the street. The driver decided to pass the boy, but he didn't manage to. His car slipped on the road and the driver lost control over his car. He used the brakes, but the road was wet and his car was thrown sideways. Fortunately the driver had his seatbelt fastened and he wasn't injured apart from minor scratches. The driver wasn't able to get out of the car because the left door was blocked. Nobody called the fire brigade came and helped him out of the car. I remember the ambulance didn't take the driver to hospital. The visibility wasn't poor that day.

MY FREE TIME

On weekdays I don't have to much time for my hobbies. However, I can't work all the time and I tray spend my leisure in the best possible way. Although I am 50, I'm quite a sportsman. I play ping-pong and I'm a member of yacht - club. Hence, I often take part in the training exercise and contests. Moreover, twice a week I learn English. I'm keen on speaking this language fluently and I'm pleased. I can understand a film or a programme in English on TV. I usually stay at home in the evenings. I read magazines, watch television and help my wife in the housework. Sometimes I go with my wife to the cinema and once a month to the theatre. Occasionally I play chess with my son and I'm very happy when I can win in a game. Before I go to bed, I listen to music and read a book. Every day, as a rule, I walk a dog. Those are the most relaxing moments for me. I like falling asleep with the conviction that I didn't waste my spare time/ I am looking forward to meeting you and spending some time with you. MY JORNEY BY PLANE

I went on a plane journey in January of last year. My four friends and I went by plane from Gdansk to Brussels. This was a round trip with two weeks pause in Brussels. After 2 weeks we began our come back home. This was not a direct flight, because I had to change in Kopenhagen. I like travelling by plane except take off and landings. After landing in Kopenhagen, when we were in the arrival's hall together with my friends, the man who was checking passengers' tickets stopped us. He said that is was not possible to flay to Gdansk together, because the company needed 2 places for its VIP's. The company wanted to give two hundred dollars to each passenger who would fly on the next plane. One friend of mine told him that is wasn't possible, because he had to get to Gdansk in two hours. The next friend told him that it was impossible either because his family would be waiting at the airport. Finally, my third college and me agreed to change the plane and stayed for four hours longer in Kopenhagen. The men took out 400 dollars and give us 200 dollars each and 2 tickets for a meal in the company restaurant. After that we went to the restaurant and we had good lunch. Four hours later we left the Kopenhagen airport for Gdansk. When we came in the arrival hall I saw my friend who arrived 4 hours ago, because in Kopenhagen their luggage had been lost and it arrived on our plane.

ZAPROSZENIE DO POLSKI Poland is a country in central Europe, so if you like sunny and warm weather, visit us in summer. June, July and August are the best time to stay in my country. You don't have to get a visa and the Polish money. You can exchange your currency everywhere. In my country credit cards are getting popular, but you must have some cash, because only some shops and restaurants accept the cards. In other places cash is the only way to pay your bills. Polish people are usually hospitable and friendly. Accommodation is not expensive in Poland. You can stay at hotels; motels or you can choose private houses. When you don't have enough money you can stay at campsites, which are getting popular in Poland. In my opinion, food in Poland is on of the best and healthy in the World. The people of Poland eat fruit, vegetables, fish and meat from animals and birds. Traditional dishes are pork, clops, bigos and chicken soup. There are a lot of different kinds of restaurants. Food is rather cheap in Poland comparing with Western countries. There are a lot of ancient places to visit in Poland. Especially I would like to recommend the old towns in Warsaw, Gdansk and Krakow, the castle in Malbork. When you are tired, you can rest in beautiful places in the country like the Kaszubian Region, the Tuchola Forests and in the mountains. But there is one thing, which you must remember. You have to be careful about your car and pockets. You mustn't leave your car unattended, because of many thefts in the streets. You must be careful in a crowd because of pickpockets. If you want to buy any souvenirs for your family you can get them everywhere. In my opinion your trip to Poland will be very interesting and my country will fascinate you.

MY ORDINARY DAY.

I usually wake up at 5.30 except at the weekends. A few minutes later I'm ready to get up. I quickly make the bed, and go to the bathroom, I as a rule take a shower and I shave every day. After that I get dressed and go to the kitchen. I usually have a cup of coffee or tea and a cheese sandwich. About 5.50 I go for a walk with my dog. I come back about 6,15. My wif and I leave the house at 6,30. I usually drive to work. I start my job at 7,30. I put on my uniform it takes me 2 minutes. Every day I make a cup of coffee and read a newspaper. At 8 o'clock my boss makes a routine short briefing. After that most of the time I prepare documents for the exercise or check my subordinates: what they do on this day, and what they did yesterday. After that about 9 o'clock I connect my PC and do something or answer the phone. Sometimes I go to communications department to solve various problems. I finish my work at 3,30. After work I drive back home. About 4.15 to 5.15, as a rule I walk a dog. After that I have lunch. Every day I read a newspaper for about 30 minutes. Sometimes I watch the news on the second channel. About 11 o'clock I walk a dog once again. I usually read for about half an hour

TOWN GDYNIA. Gdynia is situated on the coast of the Baltic Sea. Gdynia is very attractively situated. Gdynia has opened itself to foreign markets and quest from all over the World. Year after year Gdynia has become more attractive for tourist. Gdynia lies in the Bay of Gdansk and is part of the Tri-City agglomeration. Gdynia the second largest town in the Gdansk Region. Shi is an important centre of science and maritime related training. Gdynia is also an important shipbuilding centre a deep-sea fishing. Today Gdynia's shipyards are among Europe's busiest. The air here is clean because there isn't too much industry. Every year a lot of tourist visit Gdansk and Gdynia speciality in Summer. There is much to do in here. Gdynia has many restaurants where served good food, great discos in the open area. You can see marvellous performances in the theatres. Gdynia is famous its sailing ship moored along the President guy on the maritime museums. Many international companies have their representative office in Gdynia. People live and work in the centre of the town, but more and more inhabitants move to the beautiful districts Karwiny or Obluże . There is too much traffic in the streets of Gdynia. In the future the centre of Gdynia will be closed for private cars, and a new motorway is being, build.

JORNEY. I was in England two weeks ago. I arrived in London quite late. After that I took a taxi and went to the Russell hotel. It took me about 30 minutes. After that I checked in the Russell hotel. The next day I attended the main conference of Baltops. In London I didn't have too much free time, because I was very busy. On the second day I went to the centre of city. London has got a lot of interesting places, and a lot of old monuments. I sow the famous Tower Bridge and the old Tower. It was expensive, because a ticket coast about 10 Pounds. I was walking along The Thames River in evening. In the evening I went with my friend to a typical pub, which was situated at the next corner from my hotel. I usually ate fast food in the city. The last day when the conference finished very early I went to the centre of city again. I didn't see Big-Ben in side and I sow the cathedral and Buthingham Palace. In London the main streets are crowded all day and night. I didn't buy any gifts for my family. I think London is very interesting city, has got a lot of places which I probably will see in the future.

KURS ANGIELSKIEGO ZA GRANICĄ

I have just returned from a short language course in Scotland. Scotland is a nice country, but the weather in Edinburgh is rather awful. I missed the sunny and dry weather in Poland. I was learning English very intensively for 3 months. The lessons usually started at 8 o'clock and finished at 6 o'clock in the evening. The teachers were very experienced and demanding. Some of them even knew a few words in Polish. One month we were going to the theatre and museums and we were sightseeing very interesting places in Scotland. We stayed in very comfortable hotel. I had a single room with a view over a nice forest. I met a lot of interesting people from all over the World. My group consisted only 6 officers from the Central Europe. All we were from different countries. The other groups consisted about 6-7 people. I had free time in Saturdays and Sundays only. The weather was rather bad, so we spent many evenings in our pub. It was also a part of this course.We have got a good opportunity to test our language skill during these meetings. The other students in their spare time used to go to museums or they were playing football. But majority of them also used to go to a pub. In my opinion it was very good time for the practice English in the real live.I'm looking forward to seeing you in July and hearing from you.Best wishes

In my opinion, my best friend ought to start in this show. My recommendation is very simple; he is the best man whom I know. He is twenty-five. He is a student. He is studying Polytechnic for two years. In his free time he looks after the old peoples in district where he lives. He helps them in keeping their houses and he makes appointment with their doctors. In spite of this he finds some time for work to the newspaper where he writes a lot of articles. I don't know when he finds time for leisure, because he is also a good footballer in a football club. He is very handsome, toll and slim. He is honest, ambitious and reliable. His parents died in a car accident ten years ago. His grandmother who is crippled and uses while chair raised him. He loves his grandmother and takes her everywhere she wants. Although hi is very busy, he always finds time if you need something from him. He has always a good sense of humor. I have never seen him tired and unhappy.

SKARGA NA ZLE ZORGANIZOWANA KONFERENCJA

I am writing to inform you of about the displeasure live met on a conference, which took place in Jastarnia two weeks ago. Mr. Cook, who organized the meeting was in Jastarnia only in the first day of this very important conference. After that he left and he didn't come back until the end. The accommodation was not comfortable, because the rooms were very small and they have not any facilities such as telephone and color TVs. The food was awful too, and it was served not on time. The rations were too small and cold; moreover the lunch was very poor. The restaurant and bar were situated in the other building. The working hours of the restaurant and bar were very short. The schedule of the of conference was full of contains many mistakes, for example: opening conference, lunch breakers and buses departure after the conference. In my opinion the preparation of this conference was all wrong. I think the next conference should much better because if it happens once again people wont take part in this work. KURS ANGIELSKIEGO CHODZĘ NA KURS ZACHĘTA

I am so sorry to be long in answering you the last letter, but recently I was very busy, because I started an English course 2 weeks ago. The lessons start at 8 o'clock in the morning and last until 3 p.m. This course takes places in the Navy College. You don't know how difficulties to sit on the table in the classroom when you are 50 years old. I `m sitting there 7 hours every day except for Saturday. The majority of my group are young officers. Only 30 per cent of the students are senior officers. In my opinion the most difficult is grammar, because it is consists of only sophisticated rules. In this time when I attended this course I obviously don't go to work, but after the lessons when I come back home I must go for a walk for my dog, and I have to help to bit my wife. As soon as I finish my course I'm going to my deserved holidays. I think now I can speak English better, but not fluently yet. In my opinion, you should go to the an English course too. It would have significantly speed up your promotion. I think it should give a good effect on your career. I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes,

EASTER IN POLAND

The Sunday before Easter is called Palm Sunday. This day the worshippers go to church to consecrate palms. This is the beginning of Holy Week. A lot of very interesting customs are celebrated in the center of Poland where many people make very big palms. Some people make 25 meters long palms. The central day of Easter is Easter Sunday the Christian feast of the Resurrection of Jesus. This day Christians follow the old tradition of eating eggs. Many families gather together at dinner and children hunt for the missing gifts. Children have a lot of fun looking for dyed eggs and chocolates looking like rabbits and chicks. Presents are only given to children at Easter. People usually confine themselves to sending Easter cards to friends and families. The day after Easter is known as Easter Monday. This day is celebrated in different way in Poland. It depends on a region of our country. But a common custom is making young girls wet by pouring plenty of water on them.

I VISITED SWEDEN LAST WEEK./FERRY/

Sweden is in the north of Europe. It was my first business trip on a passenger's ferry.. My cabin on the ferry was quite small. I stayed which my friend there. In Stockholm I stayed in a hotel, which was very good, comfortable, and cheep. I had a single room with the view of the old town. Apart of very hard work in the planning conference, I was walking on the streets every evening. There are very interesting places, monuments and old houses in Stockholm. One evening my friend and I went to a pub. In my opinion it is difficult to find a traditional pub in Stockholm. People in Stockholm spend their leisure time in restaurant or small cafes. For many people a restaurant is a place where they not only eat meals, but also talk to friends and listen to music. It is difficult to find a traditional English pub there. When we finally found an English pub we were very tired. The pub was very cozy and it looked like a typical English pub. Beer was very good but prices were very high. In my opinion Sweden is a very expensive country not only for foreign people but also for Swedish too. That trip was on great experience for me because I had seen the capital of Sweden for the first time. Stockholm is one of the oldest cities in Europe but the city center is very modern. . Although this voyage was tiring I was happy. I am looking forward to meeting you and spending some time with you. My best wishes,

WHAT IS THE CRIME SITUATION IN POLAND? WHAT CAN/ SHOULD BE DONE?

The crime situation in Poland is not good. In the face of technological progress and economic changes many people are made redundant and they lose their jobs. Very often it leads them to drinking alcohol, taking drugs, at the end, they turn to crime. Apart from that, there are many criminals who have arrived from the East of Europe. According to the police juvenile delinquency is the big problem. It is commonly believed that mast young lawbreakers come from pathological families in which they are abused or neglected. They cannot count on their parents who are usually addicted to alcohol and drugs and don't set an example. However there are many yuang delinquents who come from rich and respectable families. This problem is connected with the fact that young people are often spoilt by their own parents, who satisfy all their whims, but do not teach them, to be responsible. In conclusion, our government should give more money for the development of the police and prevention of delinquency.

HOW DID YOU USE TO SPEND YOUR HOLIDAY IN THE PAST

When I was child I used to spend my holiday in the country. The village was situated among lakes and woods, about 70 km from Gdansk. I had many friends there because near my grandparents there lived a big family. If I remember there are twelve children. I looked forward to my holiday every year. We used to help their parents at work on the farm. When I helped on the farm during the summer, I known how hard in the life on a farm. We used to go fishing and swimming in the lake. I couldn't swim. I tried to swim every day. I remember after a warm day we used to bathe in the lake. This lake was quite wide, there had never been any holidaymakers We used to swim and jump in on birthday suit. One day when we were in the lake somebody put away our clothes. After that we looked for our clothes about one hour, it was very funny, but not for us. I think the memory selects only parts of childhood those which were greatest not wonderful and funniest. After my childhood when I was a teenager I used to set of on my holidays as a hitchhiker.

NEW YEAR EAVE

Usually I spend the New Year Eve at a party. At 7 p.m. in the New Year eve my wife and I are ready to go to the party. We arrive at the party at about 8 p.m. At first we welcome our friends, and take the seats at the table. The tables are full of drinks and delicious food. The organizers prepare for contests and us some amusing contests. We dance a lot. In the breaks when the music doesn't play we have a good opportunity to meet new friends and to change some opinions. Before the midnight we prepare champagne and fireworks. At midnight we open the bottles and start to kiss and wish each other “Happy New Year” with a glass of champagne in hand. It takes about an hour. We have a good time. After that we start to dance and eat once again. Usually the party ends at 5 in the morning. Some of us are very tired. It's good to have prepared transportation in advance because we are drunk and we cannot drive. Finally somewhere about 6 o'clock we come back home and the day we start in the afternoon. It is a good time to go for a long walk with my dog.

ON MUSIC

On the whole I like almost all kinds of music. The most I like pop music, but sometimes I like listen to the rock, salsa and folk music. In my opinion the pop music is very popular among people who are above 50. When I'm angry I often listen to the light music, because it is amusing and it makes me quiet. I think, opera is very interesting only if you listen it on the Opera House. If I have spare time I'm very often listen to the radio. My favorite band is “The Beatles”. My greatest singer is Julio Iglesias. When I listen to him it makes me thrilling. J feel moved when I listen to jazz. I'm going to a concert of modern music very seldom, because I don't like it. I like listen to folk music, which is nice for me. I don't understand the texts of songs sung by foreign bends and singers, but it doesn't matter for me, because I like all easy kinds of music. The modern music broadcasted by my favorite radio station irritates me. I haven't a good ear to music, but I distinguish when the performer sings and when he or she doesn't sing.

CLIMATE

It's obvious population will grow bigger and bigger. It's expected that the world population in 2050 will be above 9 billion. This situation will make a lot of problems. First of all, there will be a lot of environmental problems. Because of the great number of people, our world will become dirtier and we can expect the greenhouse effect. The growth of temperature will increase the sea level, and some areas where now people live will be flooded by seawater. Another important problem is deterioration of the rain forests in South America. This phenomenon results in the changing et the climate. The biger population, the bigger industry and the more polluted the world is. It will result in the growing of the ozone layer and higher ultra radiation reaching the earth. Generally speaking, the increasing population is the major contributor to the future disaster. And we must be aware of the fact that we will have to change our attitude to environmental problems and our lifestyle. Human being is the only species who is able to destroy itself and the world.
